Update September 17, 2020

Hi All Stouffville Pickleball Players

We have 64 players coming to the Year End Social on Saturday September 26th.

We are limiting the attendance to 64 players so if you plan to attend and have not signed up yet you will be on the wait list. If you have already signed up and have decided that you can not attend please e-mail me and tell us that you will not be attending so someone on the wait list can attend .

We will be having sandwiches that will be individually wrapped by Longo’s employees and we will have them out using tongs to avoid player to player contamination plus we will have snacks all individually wrapped.

The disinfecting table will be set up with hand sanitizer, soap and water for hand washing, a sign in book and a bleach / water solution to disinfect the balls once they have been used.

Masks: If you can not wear one please consider not attending  the Year End Social:

Everyone will be required to wear a mask when registering. When you are not playing we will require everyone to social distance and wear a mask.  Safety for all our members has always been our main objective while playing Pickleball.

Please bring your own chair if you want to sit while waiting to play. Only 32 players can be on the courts at a time thus around 32 players will be sitting and / or mingling. Do not sit in someone else’s chair.

We will have 3 categories (Social. Intermediate and Competitive) that players can put their paddles in while waiting to play. It is up to you to decide which category you play in. Please make sure your name is clearly marked on your paddle.

Hope to see you at the social.

Future of Pickleball in Stouffville

Below is the message that the Town has sent about Fall and Winter indoor Pickleball and what is happening with the construction of the outdoor courts.

Thanks for a great summer, as it was we still had over 140 members and 40 of them were new to the club.

As you may or may not know, the Leisure Centre has been gradually reopening, beginning July 20th with the introduction of the pool and library, and on Aug 24th the fitness centre opened.  A slow and gradual reopening is critical in order to understand needs, protocols and staff capacities. Our gymnasium currently remains closed.  In terms of indoor Pickleball and other indoor gym (typical drop-in) programs, we are planning on offering some limited indoor Pickleball times this fall, starting after Thanksgiving – however, a registration and screening process will be required for the time being.  I will have the draft program schedule within the next week and can share the details once I have all of the information.  As an early warning, we will be stretched this fall to accommodate all of our program needs given our limited participant capacities and physical distancing requirements as per Provincial Order (50 persons indoor), our required cleaning protocols, and limited staff capacities.  It is still too early to speak about plans for the winter as we are currently only planning in small intervals at this point.

In terms of the development of our permanent courts, the Request for Proposal for design services and contract management has now closed and staff are in the process of selecting the landscaping firm that will be designing the new Pickleball/Tennis infrastructure and surrounding space and managing this project.  We are aiming to have the firm in place by Thanksgiving.  Once that process is complete, we will begin our work, including stakeholder discussions and community consultation.  We will be in touch in November with respect to this project.

See you on the courts or in the gym soon.

August 2 Update and Reminders

Hi All Stouffville Pickleball PlayersNow that we have some more freedom, we are playing doubles Pickleball and are getting more players out to play. On Friday we had over 30 players

We must continue to be diligent in keeping the Covid-19 virus away from our players and courts.  We must continue to disinfect the balls when we come off the court, wash or sanitize our hands before and after games, sign the Sign In book when you arrive and keep social distancing at all times. If you prefer to wear a mask while playing please do so. If you do not feel comfortable playing doubles request a player to play singles when it is your turn to play. Safety is our first concern.

Please bring your own chair if you want to sit while waiting to play at the courts. Do not sit on someone else’s chair.

Keep your paddle and bag away from other players equipment. You can take your bag inside the court and hang it on the fence to get it out of the way if you prefer.

Separate your paddles when putting them along the fence when waiting to play.

We try and get everyone to play and if there are only a few players it is difficult to separate players into Competitive and Social Players. Please try and arrange games where Competitive players play Competitive Players and Social Players play Social Players. It is never fun being the one player in the wrong group and either all the balls or none of the balls are being hit to you.

We will put out two signs one indicating “Competitive” and one indicating “Social “ please put your paddle in the appropriate area when waiting to play

Please remember we are all in this Covid-19 together be polite to each other, have fun and stay safe.

If you do not feel comfortable playing doubles request a player to play singles when it is your turn to play. Safety is our first concern. Please remember to sign in when you arrive each day to play.

We are almost half way through the season. This year only we are offering a 1/2 price rate ($10.00) to join the Stouffville Pickleball Players for the remainder of the season. You must still sign up for Pickleball Ontario (Cost $15.00) and complete an application.
Remember all information about time of play and days we play are on the Global Pickleball Network website.
Signing up to play:
Because we are a drop in program we never know how many players are going to be at the court. There are times we will not attend thinking that no one else will be there. For some of us it is a long drive only to find out that there is no one at the courts to play our favourite sport, Pickleball.
We want everyone to use the system to sign up if they are going to the courts. I would like the members to bookmark the website since they would be using it regularly, the web address is: https://www.globalpickleball.network/network/events/viewEvents/3511-stouffville-pickleball-players
We are running a controlled drop-in for Pickleball in Stouffville . For many days this works fine but for others, people travel long distances to find the courts empty or almost empty. To assist with this situation we are asking that all members REGISTER FOR ANY DAY AND TIME THAT THEY ARE PLANNING TO PLAY. This can be done days or hours ahead of attending.
Go to the Stouffville network (Click Link Below) and in the Menu just under the picture of allot of great looking pickleball players click on the event heading. That will take you to a page listing every event available. Pick your first applicable date and click on it. On the event page you will see a box on the right that is titled Event Registration. Click yes then update. If you want to register for other events repeat this process.
We have set a limit for every session of 32 people. As people sign up when you go back to GPN you will be able to see who is coming for each session.
Register now with Global Pickleball Network
85 of the 106 Members have signed up for the Global Pickleball Network. If you are one of those that have not we need you to take the plunge. It is very easy to use and the price is right (FREE). After reviewing several systems to run the Stouffville Pickleball Players club GPN proved to be the both best value and provided the most functionality. To join click on this link https://www.globalpickleball.network/network/register/3511-stouffville-pickleball-players
This should be a one step process and when you are finished you can follow the instructions above for registering for drop-in events.

Thank you for your support this year and I hope you are enjoying the Pickleball.
Stay Safe and see you on the courts.

July 5 – Australia Fund Raiser Prize winners

Hi All Stouffville Pickleball Players

This has been a very unusual summer with Covid-19 effecting everything we
do.
But Pickleball must go on. The Stouffville Pickleball Players are still
playing pickleball in the courts on the Ninth Line. The town of Stouffville
is still restricting us  to singles play. Doubles play is allowed only if
both members on one side of the net are part of the same household.
Yesterday we had our first doubles play. It was wonderful.
Australia had devastating fires this winter burning thousands of acres of
forest and whipping out thousands of wild animals.
The Stouffville Pickleball Players took up the challenge to raise funds to
assist Australia in it’s time of need. With the assistance from many of our
club members and companies that promote pickleball we were able to raise
$3,500.00 dollars which will be split between the Australian Red Cross and
the Australian Wildlife Fund. The draw was held yesterday and below is a
list of the winners and the prizes they won.

June 2nd update

Hi All Stouffville Pickleball Players

How we conducting everyday pickleball at the Pickleball Courts on the Ninth Line

Currently we are having a “Drop In” Format. You can not reserve a court

We have 8 courts with two players on each court. Once you have completed a game come off the court and see if anyone waiting wants to use the court. We are suggesting that every time a court comes free every one moves down one court to the WEST. Thus the free court becomes the most easterly court and players can limit the number of times they have to pass close to another player on the courts. The most common time players are playing is between 10:00 and 11:00 so to avoid large numbers of players wanting to play all at once please consider arriving at 11:00 or 12:00

Please complete a application form and send it with the registration fee. Fill out and pay for a membership with Pickleball Ontario.

When you get to the courts these are your responsibilities:.

1) Sign in in the “Sign in Book” so we can keep track of the players that attended each day.

2) Set up the net. Preferred that you use gloves and remove them by turning them inside out when discarding them so you will not contaminate anyone else. If you are using your bare hands disinfect them using soap and water or hand sanitizer.

3) Take a “Clean Ball” out of the clean ball bin and play the Skinny Singles play with one other player. When you have finished playing with that player or want to play with another partner put the ball in the “Disinfection Balls” Bin (White Bin). Spray the ball with the “Bleach/Water” solution then drop the ball in “Drying Bin” (Green Bin) to dry. The Bleach/Water solution should be on the ball approx. 5 minutes. See Attached “Disinfecting Table” or Picture below

4) If you are going to play with another players take a “Clean Ball” and repeated step # 3

5) In between games and when you are finished playing wash your hands with soap and water or use the hand sanitizer.

6) Stay healthy and try to keep the players around you healthy.

If you have any suggestions to make playing Pickleball at our courts safer please e-mail me and we will consider your suggestions.
